This experiment forms part of the CNES\u2019s <strong>Epsilon<\/strong> mission, which comprises seven new French experiments developed by CADMOS, the CNES unit dedicated to microgravity research and crewed exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A major challenge: combating biocontamination in space<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>MatISS-4 is a passive device designed to collect and trap biological contaminants present in the station\u2019s atmosphere. Its aim is to study how <strong>innovative surfaces<\/strong> could halt the development of pathogenic microorganisms by repelling microbes, limiting their growth or preventing the formation of biofilms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In practical terms, the experiment consists of four boxes the size of a mobile phone, each containing glass slides with various surface treatments. After several months of exposure to the air on the ISS, the boxes will be hermetically sealed and returned to Earth for analysis, notably at the European synchrotron in Grenoble. The results could, in the long term, find applications in confined environments such as hospitals, submarines or public transport. <a href=\"https:\/\/cnes.fr\/actualites\/sophie-adenot-met-place-lexperience-francaise-matiss-4-bord-de-liss#:~:text=Le%2017%20avril,l%E2%80%99ESA%20Sophie%20Adenot.&amp;text=Il%20s%27agit%20de,dont%20des%20surfaces\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6TEC\u2019s contribution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6TEC<\/strong> has contributed its expertise to this ambitious space project by assisting with the <strong>design and mechanical construction<\/strong> of the MatISS-4 experiment. The design of the enclosures \u2014 which had to meet strict requirements for space qualification, compactness and reliability in microgravity \u2014 drew on the company\u2019s expertise in precision engineering. This collaboration illustrates 6TEC\u2019s commitment to working alongside key players in French space research, in the service of science and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MATISS-4 \u00e0 bord de l&rsquo;ISS : 6TEC contribue \u00e0 une exp\u00e9rience scientifique d&rsquo;envergure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 17 avril 2026, l&rsquo;astronaute fran\u00e7aise de l&rsquo;ESA Sophie Adenot a install\u00e9 les quatre bo\u00eetiers de l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience <strong>MatISS-4<\/strong> \u00e0 bord du module europ\u00e9en Columbus, dans la Station spatiale internationale (ISS). Cette exp\u00e9rience s&rsquo;inscrit dans le cadre de la mission <strong>Epsilon<\/strong> du CNES, qui regroupe sept nouvelles exp\u00e9riences fran\u00e7aises d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es par le CADMOS, l&rsquo;entit\u00e9 du CNES d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 la recherche en micropesanteur et \u00e0 l&rsquo;exploration habit\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un enjeu majeur : lutter contre la bio contamination dans l&rsquo;espace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>MatISS-4 est un dispositif passif con\u00e7u pour collecter et pi\u00e9ger les contaminants biologiques pr\u00e9sents dans l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re de la station. Son objectif est d&rsquo;\u00e9tudier comment des <strong>surfaces innovantes<\/strong> pourraient stopper le d\u00e9veloppement de micro-organismes pathog\u00e8nes, en repoussant les microbes, en limitant leur croissance ou en emp\u00eachant la formation de biofilms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concr\u00e8tement, l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience se pr\u00e9sente sous la forme de quatre bo\u00eetiers de la taille d&rsquo;un t\u00e9l\u00e9phone portable, contenant chacun des lamelles de verre aux traitements de surface vari\u00e9s. Apr\u00e8s plusieurs mois d&rsquo;exposition \u00e0 l&rsquo;air de l&rsquo;ISS, les bo\u00eetiers seront herm\u00e9tiquement referm\u00e9s et renvoy\u00e9s sur Terre pour analyse, notamment au synchrotron europ\u00e9en de Grenoble.
